Delicious gingerbread (lebkuchen) filled with roasted plum jam (powidl) and covered in dark chocolate - a real Austrian treat.
The gingerbread buttons of Manner, which are filled with Powidl and covered with dark chocolate, taste especially soft and tender.
Powidl is a fruit pulp made from plums, a subspecies of the plum.
Traditionally this is done by boiling in particularly ripe plums and without the addition of sugar.
The addition of sugar is allowed, but it is precisely regulated how much fruit must be included to earn the name "Powidl".
